Obituary of Glen Wilfred Jones
Passed peacefully away on October 21, 2022, at his home, Glen Wilfred Jones at the age of 63 years. He was predeceased by parents: Wilfred and Agnes Jones and daughter, Samantha Glenne Best-Jones. He leaves to mourn his wife Carol-ann Best Jones; son, Glenn; daughter, Alice and grandson Joshua. He also leaves his sisters: Donna (Jim), Cindy (Fred), Paula (Clarence); brothers: Curt (Verlie), Tracy (Stephanie) and Jason (Karen).
Glen was born on May 9, 1959 to Wilfred and Agnes Jones in Markland. He was the eldest of seven close and much loved siblings. He was raised in Whitbourne close to grandparents and relatives until he moved to Botwood in his teens.
He always loved playing and watching hockey. During his youth and teenage years he demonstrated talent and ability as a gifted hockey player. He was proud to see that love and talent for the sport in his son Glenn.
After high school he took a culinary course in St. John’s. His first job was at a seniors home in Springdale. Also he worked briefly aboard a ship which enabled him to travel overseas. He had exceptional cooking skills yet he was a humble cook.
He worked as a “slasher” in Western Canada for several years. Travelling back and forth allowed him to visit with his son and see a lot of the country.
He loved fishing and spending time at the cabin. He liked to play pool competitively and with friends. He was a music lover and he’d rarely be found without some melody playing nearby. He regularly enjoyed a game of cards and crib with his friend Barry Jewer.
Visits from his son Glenn and grandson Joshua were treasured and precious to him.
He found humor in the most difficult circumstances. His humor was one of his most endearing qualities. “Lard Jarge”, he will be missed.
Rev. Don Brett will conduct a private family memorial service at Hoskins Funeral Home, Botwood on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022 at 2 p.m. with interment at the Botwood Community Cemetery. Urnbearer will be Curt. Arrangements entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home, Botwood.
