Obituary of Alice Elliott

Alice Elliott (nee Cater)
April 7, 1941- August 8, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Elliott (nee Cater) on August 8, 2022 at St.
Clare’s Mercy Hospital in St. John’s, NL at the age of 81 years. Alice was born and raised in Grand Falls
and was the daughter of the late Albert and Nellie Cater (nee Patterson). She was also predeceased by
her sisters Peggy Reid, Rose Sampson, Dorothy Duvall, Joan Gardner, brothers Cyril, Ab, James and Bill.

Alice was born in Grand Falls and grew up on 19 Hill Road. She was a great athlete as a young woman
who enjoyed swimming, broomball and other sports. She met her husband of 61 years, Harry, at the age
of 16, married at 18 and moved to Botwood Highway (Grenfell Heights) shortly thereafter where she
lived for most of her life. She spent some of her early married life in different NL communities, traveling
with Harry and her young boys as he worked with Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro. She loved
spending her summers at Beothuk Park with her sisters and their children. She loved to travel and went
on several trips with family members and friends. She loved to dance and looked forward to her yearly
attendance at the “New Year’s Ball” with her husband, Harry. She also participated in several different
line-dancing groups over the years which kept her active and created lasting friendships. Alice deeply
cherished the close relationship she had with her sister, Barbara Farr, and looked forward to their
regular visits and chats. She valued the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren
and was very proud of each and every one. She always celebrated their birthdays, attended Christmas
concerts, graduations, figure skating competitions, hockey games, baseball games and other special
events. They all adored their “nan” and “big nan” and will deeply miss her kindness and presence. Alice
was a strong, independent, active woman right up to the end, who loved life and lived it to the fullest.

Left to mourn but with a lifetime of loving and wonderful memories are her husband of 61 years, Harry;
her sons Robert (Jackie), Jim (Hazel), Brian (Shirley-Ann), Cory (Laura), her sister; Barbara Farr, her
brother; Derek Cater, her grandchildren; Matthew (Natalie) and Melissa, Hollie (Lee) and Ashley (Bob),
Jamie (Jamie) and Megan (Nigel), Jake and Jesse, her great-grandchildren; Robert and William Sullivan,
Levi, Vayda and Fynn Bath, Anna Elliott, Henry, Joey, Simon and Maggie Norman. She also leaves to
mourn many loving nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as a large circle of
family and friends.

In keeping with Alice’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service.

Public Visitation will be Thursday 7-9 PM.

A family time of remembrance and celebration of her life will take place at Hoskins Funeral Home (by invitation).
