Obituary of Margaret Ann Butler
It is with great sadness that the family of Margaret Butler announce her passing at the Carmelite House in Grand Falls-Windsor on July 29, 2022 at the age of 83 years.
She was predeceased by her husband John, step-son William, parents Michael and Mary Fitzpatrick, brothers Donald, Bill (Triffee), Andy, Michael (Lorraine), and brother-in-law Edward Hicks.
Left to mourn her passing with fond and loving memories is her daughter Mary (Shawn), son Angus (Darlene), sister Bridget (Steve), brother Johnny (Judy), 4 grandchildren, Karen (Bill), Melissa (Jeremy), Michael and Ryan, 5 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Amber, Alyssa, Kaylee and Dawson.
Margaret was a loving, devoted wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She also had a large circle of relatives and friends, including many special nieces and nephews who will always remember her as "Aunt Mag" or "Nan." She will be missed by all who loved her dearly. Margaret was born and raised in Fortune Harbour, Notre Dame Bay where she lived with her mother, father, and siblings. She attended school until the age of 13 when her mother passed and she had to stay at home to raise her brothers and sister, the youngest being just 2 years old at the time. She married her husband, John, in 1965 and they had two children together, Angus and Mary, in addition to her step son William where they lived happily together in Fortune Harbour. At the young age of 38, she lost her husband, and lived the rest of her 44 years as a widow. Margaret enjoyed a modest life and took pleasure in the simple things, such as a good game of 120's, a cup of coffee, biscuit and a smoke. She also had a great love for her dogs. She loved having family and friends around her table and everyone was always welcome. She spent the last few years, before entering long-term care homes, living with her daughter Mary (and Shawn) in Bishop's Falls.
Visitation will take place at Hoskins Funeral Home in Bishop's Falls on Monday, August 1st from 2-4 p.m & 7-9 p.m and at St. Anne's Church in Fortune Harbour on Tuesday, August 2nd from 11 a.m -1 p.m. Father Moses will conduct the funeral service at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Fortune Harbour on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2022 at 2 p.m. with interment to follow at St. Anne's Roman Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her son Angus Butler, son-in-law Shawn Budgell, brother Johnny Fitzpatrick, grandsons Michael and Ryan Butler and grandson-in-law Bill Boone.
