Obituary of Alice Nella Sharpe
Passed away Sunday, June 5 after a lengthy illness, Alice Nella Sharpe, at the Carmelite House. She was 90 years of age. Mrs. Sharpe retired from The United Church Group Home and was a member of First United Church U.C.W. She is predeceased by her husband, Weldon Sharpe and daughter Doreen Sharpe. Left to mourn are sons Brian (Peggy) Sharpe and Jim (Maxine) Sharpe; daughters Dianne Sharpe, Jackie (Shawn) Feener, Darlah (Bob) Macfarlane. Also leaving to mourn are 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a very large circle of relatives and friends.
Alice was a very active member of her church community for over 30 years. She was involved in the UCW, Woman’s Aglow, Bible Society, World Day of Prayer, and much more. She was honoured as the Windsor Citizen of the Year in 1988. Renowned for her cooking abilities, she spearheaded hundreds of church functions and delivered Meals on Wheels to community members and shut-ins. Her cold plates were one for the record books and they had to contain no less than 14 items or they didn’t go out the door.
Above all, Alice was a loving and devoted mother. There was nothing more important to her than the well-being of her family. She was selfless, loving and fiercely independent; she had a sense of humor that left everyone who met her laughing and a little happier. Her sense of empathy for others was unprecedented and she gave until there was very little left for herself.
Alice and her husband, Weldon, raised countless foster children over the years and at times had 10-12 boarders as well. No stranger to hard work she spent her life in service to others.
For the past 10 years Alice had been battling Alzheimer’s, but even through cloudy perception, she managed a smile and a joke for everyone she met and they felt happier than before they had met her. She was loved and respected beyond words.
Her absence may be big and large, but her presence was immeasurable. Rest easy dear Mother; your days of toil are over. You will be missed and remembered forever.
Rev. Kim Waite will conduct the funeral service at Memorial United Church in Grand Falls-Windsor on Wednesday, June 8, 2022. Pallbearers will be Mark, Chris, Shawn Feener, Jeff Viguers, Brian Sharpe and Bob Macfarlane.
Flowers are grately accepted. Thank You.
