Obituary of Eileen Hollett

“If love could keep you alive, you would live forever.”

Eileen amazingly survived one month and one day following a massive stroke and during that time shared her beautiful smile, charming chuckle, knowing look, and gentle touch with her loved ones. Her strength was an inspiration to all who knew her—but it came as no surprise to those who knew her best as Eileen was always a strong, determined woman who fiercely loved her family and friends.

The world became a better place on August 29, 1940, when Eileen Penton was born at Rattling Brook Depot to Michael "Mick" Penton (1914–1999) and Jessie Cooper (1922–2006). Eileen came from a large family of 20 children: Margaret “Marg” 1938–2012 (Frank Ralph, d. 2013), Lillian “Lil” (Winfield “Win” Higgins), Yvonne 1941–1941, Shirley “Shirl” (John Sweeney), John (Wavey Langdon), Joan “Sis” (William “Bill” LeDrew, d. 2016), Lina “Line”, Jerry “Jer” (Merida Pope), Faye 1951–2021 (Norm Fudge), Anthony “Tone” 1952–2021, Brenda (Peter Morrissey), David “Dave”, Christopher “Chris” 1957–2015 (Bonnie Fudge, d. 2011), Michael “Junior” (Barbara Desjardin), Barbara “Barb” (Les Wilkinson), Jacqueline (Guy Brent), Daniel “Danny” (Louise Hardiman), Lisa, and Marlene (Lou Sheppard).

Eileen has five children whom she dearly loved: Gladys “Glad” (Ronald Bishop), Ernest “Ernie” (Maureen Cramm), Robert “Rob” (Donna Brickus), Patricia “Teda” (Tim Cameron), Venus (Robert Boone). Eileen was also a “second mom” to many and was a natural caregiver. She had a strong bond with many of her nieces and nephews and loved them like they were her own children.

Eileen has seven grandchildren: Arthur “Art” Bishop (Mandy Lamson) and Andrew “Lou” Bishop (Natasha Knight); Chelsey Cramm-Hollett (Michael Slaney) and Zachary Hollett; Stephanie Robertson and Katrina Cameron (Wes Guest); and Amelia Boone (Andrew Little). Eileen also has eight great-grandchildren: Dominic Bishop; Madison Bishop; Louis and James-Ernest Slaney; Emily, Natalie, and Cameron Robertson; and Robert Little.

Cherishing her beautiful soul and the wonderful memories made together is the love of her life, David Stroud. Eileen loved him with all her heart and loved the spontaneity that they shared. Together they enjoyed many years of playing cards, cooking, baking, dining, travelling, fishing, spending time in the great outdoors, staying at their many cabins, and gazing at the stars. Every day was an adventure and they treasured the time they shared together.

Eileen was a thrifty shopper and loved going to the store (especially the grocery store) and shopping online (she always had several Amazon boxes around). She enjoyed watching movies (westerns, thrillers, dramas, comedies—she enjoyed all genres), watching shows on YouTube, scrolling through Facebook, and checking the obituaries on the funeral home websites. She loved a good ghost book (non-fiction) and loved a good joke—and she was able to tell them well (“Have you heard the one…?”). She loved music (Elvis, the Eagles, the Everly Brothers, Roy Orbison, CCR, Buddy Holly, Kenny Rogers, just to name a few) and had the most beautiful singing voice. She knew all the lyrics to many songs and would often begin singing a song at the mention of a word.

Eileen loved life and was young at heart. She enjoyed the little things and spread joy to those around her every day, just by being herself—her delightful laugh, her playful smirk, the twinkle in her eye, the way she so effortlessly put others at ease, and the warmth that enveloped those in her company. Eileen was appreciative, giving, thoughtful, charming, funny, caring, friendly, talkative, and hardworking. May Eileen’s kindness, positivity, and warmth live on in those who were blessed to know her and love her.

“Whenever I’m lonely, I’m lonely for you.”

Flowers are graciously accepted by the family in Eileen's memory.
