Obituary of Josephine Mary Saunders

Passed peacefully away on April 19, 2022 Josephine Mary Saunders at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre, Botwood, at the age of 90 years. Josephine Mary Saunders (Best) was born on March 28, 1932 in Southern Harbour, Placentia Bay to Mary and Maurice Best. She left home at the young age of 15 to go to work in Gambo for a number of years until she moved to Grand Falls where she met the love of her life, Edward. They enjoyed 58 years together until the time of Edwards death in 2010. She thoroughly enjoyed Sunday drives and picnics with Edward and their 10 children and she always looked forward to spending time with family in Southern Harbour. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Maurice Best; husband, Edward; son Brendan; brothers: Walter, George and Mike; sisters: Mary, Theresa, Annie and Minnie. She leaves to mourn her sons: Edward, Wayne (Charlene), George (Nancy); daughters: Mary (Paul) Flood, Gert, Esther (Tony) Boone, Catherine (Shawn) Rideout, Darlene (Clar) Horton, Joanne (Melvin) Hillier. She also leaves her 25 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; sisters: Joyce (Joseph) Collins, Esther (Ignatius) Collins, Rita (Gary) Pittman and a circle of other relatives and friends. Father Tom Duffenais will conduct the funeral service at St. Joseph’s Parish on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 11 a.m. with interment at the Roman Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers are her grandsons: Paul Flood, Michael Saunders, Christopher Maher, Joshua Horton, Justin Hillier & Tyler Horton.
