Obituary of Gertie Melina Cooper

Passed peacefully away on March 24th, 2022 in her 88th year, Gertie Melina Cooper, at the Dr. Huge Twomey Health Center, Botwood. Gertie was born in Pt. Leamington to Marshall and Lily Stuckless on April 11,1934. She was one of eleven children. On January, 28th,1953 she married Howard Andrew Lewis Cooper of Triton. They resided in point leamington where together they had six children, three girls and three boys. Gertie enjoyed sewing which she did for her children, and many others. In 1976, she moved to Ontario where she worked with Superior Glove for 36 years. At the age of 72, she retired and moved back to Newfoundland in 2012. She cherished spending time with family and friends. Each grandchild held a special place in her heart.She was predeceased by her husband Howard; son Oliver; son-in-law James/Jim Feener; parents Marshall and Lily; brothers Alex, Malcolm, Maxwell/Mac, Llewellyn/Lou Stuckless; step-brother Wallace; sister Hazel/Bett Pelly. She leaves to mourn her brothers Herb, Lorne, Doug Stuckless; sister Winnie Froude; sons John (Diane), Orvan; daughters Loretta (Dave), Juanita (Dave), Kelly; 9 grandchildren Melanie, Dean, Wanda, Krista, Andrew, Janet, Katrina, Chantel, Stefanie and families; 23 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren and a circle of other relatives and friends. Visitation will take place at the Salvation Army Citadel, Pt. Leamington for the public at 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 7:00pm - 9:00pm Sunday, March 27, 2022 at the Salvation Army Citadel, Point Leamington. Majors Weldon and Donna Hayward will conduct the funeral service from the Salvation Army Citadel, Pt. Leamington on Monday, March 28, at 2 P.M. Interment to follow at the Salvation Army cemetery, Pt. Leamington. The family has requested that masks be worn inside the sanctuary. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home, Botwood. Pallbearers will be grandsons Dean Feener, Andrew Cooper, granddaughters Melanie Feener, Wanda Cherrey-Curzon, Janet Thompson, Katrina Stuckless. Honorary pallbearers will be Orvan Cooper, Krista Neels, Chantel Cooper, Stefanie Stefanec.

Donations can be made in Gertie’s memory to the Salvation Army Cemetery Fund.
