Obituary of Ronald (Ron) Stephen Lahey
It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Ronald Stephen Lahey on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at the age of 85. He is predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Emeline (Murray) Lahey; brother and sister-in-law Peter and Shirley Lahey; sister and brother-in-law Josephine and Ambrose Morgan; sister and brother-in-law Mary and Patrick O’Reilly; and brother-in-law Walter Morgan.
Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife of 54 years, Theresa; children Linda Green (Freeman), Bridget Walters (Robin), Catherine Mitchell (Paul), and James Lahey (Stacey); 11 grandchildren (Christopher, Jessica, Gavin, Shannon, Grant, Pru, Morgan, Paige, Liam, Jamie, and Brooklyn); and 3 great grandchildren (Madison, Emma, and Allison). Also left to mourn are sister Julia Morgan (Lahey); brothers-in-law James Lynch (Mary), Gerald Lynch, Brendan Lynch (Florence); sisters-in-law Toni Lynch, and Josephine Brazil (Michael); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Ronald will be fondly remembered by all who knew him as a kind and gentle soul, pleasant of disposition with a ready smile for all. Throughout his life he lived humbly and enjoyed the simple pleasures and joys that life brought his way. He held a passion and love for music - especially when surrounded by family gathered in song. He will be forever remembered for his love of Christmas - his garden (and heart) was always bright with the light of Christmas. His greatest treasure and pride was his family, and he reveled in those precious moments when all were gathered together. He was a story teller by nature and was proud of his heritage. He was a good neighbor - he loved people and looked forward to “having a chat”. For all that though, he was a man of few words - so when he did have something to impart, you’d be wise to listen. He was a man of great faith and lived his life accordingly.
Visitation will be on Monday, November 1, at 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Hoskins Funeral Home, Bishop’s Falls (following current Covid-19 guidelines).
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at 2pm at Sacred Heart Church, officiated by Fr. Moses Nwokocha (as per current Covid-19 guidelines, attendance by invitation or prior notice only). Internment to follow at Roman Catholic Cemetery, Bishop’s Falls.
Much appreciation is offered for the support of family and community by way of phone calls, messages, kind gestures, and words of condolence.
