It is with great sadness that the family of James Houlahan announce his passing on August 26th, 2021 at Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor after a lengthy illness. He was 86 years of age. He is predeceased by his parents Patrick and Mary (nee Cashin), sister Mary; brothers Patrick and Michael; son-in-law Peter Bragg. Left to mourn are his loving wife of 57 years Caroline (nee Feltham); son Christopher Houlahan; daughters Margaret (Rodney) Houlahan, Maureen (Lewis) Bailey, Colleen (Chad) Bragg, and Catherine (Trevor) Wicks; sisters Lillian (Eric) Houlahan and Ann (Darryl) MacGillivray; brother Ron (Eileen) Houlahan; grandchildren Michael, Jamie, Trevor, Alyssa, Jeffrey, Amy, Tyler, and Evan; great-grandchildren James, Mikey, Brianna, and Charlie.
Jim retired from Abitibi Price after 42 years of service. After his retirement he enjoyed many years at his cabin which he built himself. He touched many lives in the most positive ways. He will be remembered fondly by those who were privileged to have known him. He was a busy man with many hobbies including playing guitar. In fact, he could play several instruments and had an incredible ear for music. He was a jack of all trades. There was nothing he couldn’t fix. He was beyond selfless; always putting everyone else’s needs ahead of his own. There are not enough kind words to describe his gentle and caring soul. He was truly an angel on earth.
Interment will be held at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Cemetery on Monday, August 30, 2021.
Donations can be made in James memory to the Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.
