Obituary of Thelma Bernice Smith

Passed peacefully away after a short illness on August 10, 2021,  Bernice T. Smith at the Central NL Regional Health Care Centre.  She was 89 years of age.   Mrs. Smith retired from teaching in 1989.  Predeceased by her husband Harold Smith in 2018.  She is survived by her two sons Grant (Deborah) and Jeffrey (Darla),   two daughters Crystal Cook and Dayle Smith.  9 grandchildren Julie, Andrew (Diana), Darin, Adam (Celina), Crystal (Jason), Christian (Megan), Hayley (Jordon) Keaton and Cassie.  7 great-grandchildren Cameron, Rhys, Ruby, Erik, Augustin, Magdalena and Hudson.  Two sisters Frances White of St. John's and Carol (Gerry) Anstey of Grand Falls-Windsor,  

Born in Grand Falls, spent her life after marriage to Harold, in Bishop's Falls.  Teacher for 27 years, most of her career in special education.  A long time member of the United Church, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was a lay reader in later years.  A very social person, Bernice loved to go out for lunch, take walks through the mall chatting to people she knew, make regular visits to homes of friends over the years, belonged to UCW church choir, centennial choir, world day of prayer, to name a few.  She had an amazing memory and could retrieve a story with great detail.  She will be missed by all who had the joy of knowing her.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 - 4 at Hoskins Funeral Home, Bishop's Falls.  The funeral service will be on Sunday at 2 PM from the United Church, Bishop's Falls.  Please call Crystal at 905-404-6038 to reserve a seat.  Pallbearers are Gerry Anstey, Rick Pelley, Darin Cook, Susan Goobie, Heather Anstey and Brian Murray.
