Obituary of Alan Trevor Kenny

Passed away on August 6, 2021 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Alan Trevor Kenny at the age of 76 years. Left to miss him everyday are his wife, Lorraine; his son, Trevor (Peggy), and his daughter, Lori (Jody). Also leaving to mourn his two grandchildren, Julie Ann Kenny and Ethon Alan Furey.

Alan was the third child born to Rita and John Kenny, on May 16, 1945 in New Castle, England. He spoke of his childhood with his brother John and sister Rita with a lot of love, laughter and nostalgia. He spoke of them often over the years and missed them so much. Alan is predeceased by his parents, John and Rita as well as his brother, John. His father John Sr. sadly died in 1945 at the end of WWII, and as a result, they never met. Al and his siblings were raised by his brave mother and step-father.

When he was 17, Alan hopped on a Canadian Leaf and landed in Toronto, Canada. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces and was stationed in Toronto, living in an apartment building across from the base. He met and fell in love with Lorraine in an elevator (he was a little tipsy at the time), and they discovered that they both lived right across from each other. He slipped a note under her door, asking her on a date to the drive-in movies. Lorraine fell for Al’s geordie accent and great height achieved by his platform shoes.

Al and Lorraine married on August 16, 1968 in Nassau, Bahamas. They were then posted in Middleton, Nova Scotia, and had their daughter Lori in 1972. They were later posted to Happy Valley Goose Bay and were so fortunate to have their second child, a son, Trevor in 1978. As Al’s family was so far away from him, back in England, so Lorraines family, became his family. He loved her brothers very much.

Al served in the Canadian Air Force and later the reserves for 35 years. He had much success in the military and retired in 1998 as a Warrant Officer. Al and his family got to travel all over the world, but lived mostly in Eastern Canada and in England.

Al would by a lottery ticket every week but really didn’t care much about material things. He wouldn’t notice the clothes you wore or your jewelry you had on. He was interesting, intelligent, kind, witty, and above all, he was a really good sport. He loved to read scary books, especially Stephen King novels, watching Jeopardy everyday and playing along (he was quite good at it), and he thought the Beatles were the greatest band that ever existed. He celebrated all his children’s successes and adored their mother. He loved animals and always had a pet in the house. His grandchildren were his greatest joy and believed that until you have children, you don’t know what love really is. He was one hell of a dad and loved by many. We get to miss him everyday.

Love the family of Alan Kenny, xxoo.
