Obituary of Edward Harold Humphries
Eddie passed peacefully away on May 16, 2021 at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Centre in Botwood after a brief battle with cancer. He was born to the late Sarah (Ball) and Moses Humphries of Northern Arm, NL July 3, 1943. After finishing high school, he attended Trades School in St. Johns where he took a trade in Heavy Duty Mechanics. After several years working as a mechanic, he attended EPBC, Peterborough for 2 years. In 1968 he moved to Happy Valley Goose Bay where he started his career with the USAF as a Heavy Duty Mechanic. In 1971 he married Audrey Swyers of Botwood and later had two sons, Dwayne and Jason. He became employed as a crash and rescue firefighter with USAF and later Transport Canada, Goose Bay until 1980 and then transfered to Gander Airport with Transport Canada and continued there until his retirement in 1995.
Eddie was a hard worker and was always occupied with other hobbies which he enjoyed. He had a great love for the outdoors, boating, and loved spending time at his cabin with family and friends. He faithfully attended church all of his life, having a very strong faith. He dearly loved his wife, sons and especially his grandchildren. He will be forever remembered, loved and missed by family and friends, but never forgotten.
Edward was predeceased by his parents, Sarah (1993) and Moses(1998) Humphries. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Audrey; sons, Dwayne (Darlene) Humphries, and Jason (Michelle) Humphries; grandchildren, Ian, Adam, Sarah, Rachel, Ben (Sydney) and Isaac. Also left to mourn great-grandson, Liam; sister, Daphne (Terry) Gibson; special niece, Tracy and family, as well as two aunts and a large circle of other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank all those who have called, brought food, and sent messages. Your kindness during this difficult time is greatly appreciated.
Visitation will take place at Hoskins Funeral Home in Botwood on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 from 6:30 - 9:30 pm. Please call 1-709-257-4899 to book a visitation time. Pastor Moral Bess will conduct the funeral service from Jubilee Pentecostal Temple, Botwood on Wednesday at 2 p. m. The funeral service will be live stream from Jubilee Pentecostal Temple's facebook page. Burial to follow at the Pentecostal cemetery, Botwood. Pallbearers are grandchildren: Ian Humphries, Adam Humphries, Ben Humphries, Isaac Humphries, Sarah Humphries and Rachel Humphries. Honorary pallbearers will be his sister Daphne Gibson and brother-in-law Terry Gibson.
Donations in Edwards memory can be made to the Gideons or flowers are grately accepted.
