Obituary of Frances Marion Cole

It is with broken hearts and much love that the families of Frances “Marion” Cole (Nee: Abbott) mourn her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at the age of 74 years.

Marion will be lovingly remembered by her Husband of almost 53 years, Melvin; Daughters: Julie (Lori) and Valerie (Patrick); Grandsons: Billy, Barry (Leona), Jonathan and Cameron; and Great Granddaughter: Apollymi.  Brothers: Alonzo (Dale) and Daniel (Geraldine); Sister: Christine (Harry); Brother-in-Law: Eugene (Mary); and Sister-in-Law: Joyce; and a large circle of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and former co-workers.

She was predeceased by her Parents: Wallace and Mabel Abbott (Nee: Normore); Sister: Velma Wells (Nee: Abbott) and Brother: Rufus Abbott.

Marion was born in Elliston, Trinity Bay, NL on Friday, May 10, 1946. Upon completion of High School she went on to further her education at The Salvation Army Grace General Hospital School of Nursing in St. John’s, NL and became a Registered Nurse in 1968.  She completed her work term in Grand Falls, NL where she met the love of her life, Melvin Richard Cole. They married on Saturday, August 24, 1968 in Elliston, and started their new life together in Windsor, NL.  Marion worked as a Registered Nurse at Lethbridge Municipal Hospital in Lethbridge, Alberta (1981-1984) and at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre (1968-1981; 1984-2006) until she retired. She was a member of the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland, The Alberta Association of Registered Nurses, Retired Nurses and Alumni. She touched the lives of many as they relocated over the years. Marion was a devout Christian and loved her Lord with all of her heart. We are comforted knowing that when she was absent from the body she was present with the Lord. Her favorite song was “In His Hands”.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2021 from 1-5pm at Hoskins Funeral Home & Crematorium located at 12 Earle Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL following protocol regarding COVID.

The funeral will be held on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 2pm at the Windsor Pentecostal Church located at 97 King Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL by invitation only due to COVID restrictions.  The service with be live streamed on the Windsor Pentecostal Church Facebook page.  The Internment will be held at the Windsor Pentecostal Cemetery following the service.


Pallbearers: William (Billy) Cole, Jonathan Swift (grandsons); Alonzo Abbott, Daniel Abbott (brothers); Wayne Cole, Trent Templeman (nephews). Honorary pallbearers: Chesley Normore, Roy Normore (uncles – brothers of Marion’s mother).

Memorial Donations may in Marion’s memory to The Gideons or The Heart and Stroke Foundation.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the Doctors and Staff of the ER and ICU of the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Clergy, Hoskins Funeral Home, the Honour Guard of Nurses, and all who have helped in any way during this difficult time.
