Obituary of Arthur Edgar Bruce Langdon

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Arthur Edgar Bruce Langdon announce his peaceful passing on January 9th 2021, at the Dr Hugh Twomey Health Centre, Botwood,NL.


Arthur is predeceased by his parents Allen & Olive Langdon; his parents-in-law George & Fannie Pelley; brother Fred and sister Doris (Obed George Stuckless);  brothers-in-law George Pelley and Reg Pelley; sisters-in-law Mabel, Grace, Hazel and Margaret.


Leaving to mourn his wife Effie, daugter Joanne (Fred Schumacher) of Germany; sons Derrick of Botwood and Glen (Kristen) of Edmonton, Alberta; grandchildren Kayla Lounis, Jessica (Kevin) Evers; step-grandchildren Mandy, Rhonda and Benson; great grandchildren Lexa, Ella and Jule; step grandgrandchildren Logan, Aiden, Graysoon, Adeline, Abel, Benson and Juuliana: brother Gerald (Cindy) of Corner Brook, NL; sister Fronie (Gerald) Rice of Botwood, and a  large number of nieces and nephews.


Art was born on April 18th 1936 to Allen and Olive Langdon.  He enlisted in the Reserve Army (Militia).   In 1958 he married the love of his life, Effie Pelley of  Bishop’s Falls and together they raised three children.  In 1964 Art  began work in the Works Department at Botwood Town Council, a position he held for 37 years, retiring in 2001.


Art was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #5; The 50 Plus Club of Botwood; Salvation Army Men’s Fellowship Club and for 25 years he was a member of the Botwood Fire Dept.  He was quite involved in volunteer work wherever needed, quite often preparing and cooking for the 50 Plus Club, Legion  or the 60 Plus fellowship at his church.


For Art, his proudest moments were time spent with family and friends and enjoying fellowship at his church.  He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandhildren more than life itself.


The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Dr Hugh Twomey Health Care Centre.  A special thank you to the staff of the Recreation Dept for the support and kindness shown to Art during his stay at the Centre.


Following the Covid 19 restrictions the visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 P.M. from Hoskins Funeral Home.  Lieut. Daniel Kelley will conduct the memorial service on Wednesday,  at 11 A.M. from the Salvation Army Citadel, Botwood. Burial will follow at the Botwood Community Cemetery.  Urnbearer will be his brother Gerald Langdon.


No flowers by request and donations in his memory can be made to the Botwood Salvation Army Citadel.
