Obituary of Leroy William Sheppard

Leroy W. A. Sheppard – Age 79, Responded to the Lords call to home on his day of birth, December 28, 2020 – As he passed peacefully in his slumber.

He was born to Dorman and Doris Sheppard (nee Holmes), of Carmanville in 1941. Leroy was the second child of three; predeceased by his older sister Joan Sargent (Sheppard) and his younger brother George Sheppard.

Leroy moved to Stephenville at the age of 7, where he later met the love of his life Beulah Harnum. They married in 1963 and went on to have five children: Jason Sheppard (Bev Sheppard), Colleen Eddy (Ivan Eddy), Karen Slade (Philip Slade), Trevor Sheppard (Amanda Sheppard), Jeff Sheppard (Amy Sheppard).

In addition to being a dedicated husband and father; Leroy began his early career as a Salesman where he had great success, but later venturing into Commercial Scuba Diving. It is when he began his own company Polar Diving & Contracting Ltd. That he was most well known for his work.  Leroy Sheppard became a household name, the comrades and acquaintances were endless. He later moved on to Fort McMurray, Alberta to be closer to the families of his children in 2002. Leroy made his final move to Botwood, NL after deciding to retire in 2011.

Leroy was an immensely proud grandfather; survived by his 9 Grandchildren: Ashlyn Dubetz (Dakota Dubetz), Channon Manuel (Jenna Manuel), Heidi Hunt (Cody Hunt), Garrett Slade, Charity Slade, Spencer Sheppard, Breanne Sheppard, Keagan Sheppard, and Michael Sheppard. As well as 5 great-grandchildren; Conner Manuel, Austin Manuel, Emma Manuel, Bria Hunt, and Kesler Hunt.

Along with being a devoted family-man; Leroy loved to set sail on open water in his sailboat, The Brecharidi . He enjoyed his summer days for many decades, beach front in Little Port Harmon. Leroy loved any moment spent in the wilderness with his boys, but any of his very best days were spent sitting beside his adorned wife, Beulah. He loved to read, was a lifelong learner, and never turned down a debate of global affairs. He was a true man of strength, dignity, and honour – He was a mentor to all, a friend to everyone, and the definition of a great man.

Leroy had dedicated his life to the Lord and took every opportunity to teach his loved ones about the ways of Jesus Christ. He loved the treasures of his beloved bible and he lived for the glorious moment to be called home to heaven.

“What a day it will be when my Jesus I shall see, when I look upon his face, the one who saved me by his grace, when he takes me by the hand and leads me through the promised land.”

Flowers are accepted or donations in his memory can be made to The Gideons.

Following Covid-19 restrictions visitation will take place on Wednesday 2-5.

Funeral service by invitation only will take place at Jubilee Pentecostal Temple on Thursday at 1 p.m. with interment at the R.G. Harnum Memorial Cemetery, Sunset Drive, Bishop's Falls.

Pallbearers are: Garrett Slade, Paul Pike, Dwight Buckley, Ivan Eddy, John Callahan, Yves Leroy. Honorary Pallbearers are: Harold Wells and Philip Slade
