Obituary of Olive Letta Pinsent

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of a great lady of family and faith, Olive Letta Pinsent on Thursday October 1, 2020 at the age of 91, in St. John's, in the presence of her daughter Gail and son-in-law Cal.

Predeceased by her loving husband Albert Leonard Pinsent in1978, parents William and Hannah Drucella Hollett, brothers Clarence, Stanley, Raymond (Hope), brothers-in-law Edward Pinsent and Gerald Chaulk, sister-in-law Mildred (Bramwell) Pretty, grandson-in-law Carlos Amorim and extended family members.

Leaving to mourn are her children:  Glenn (Kathryn), Gail (Calvin Baker), Paul (Dara); sister Phyllis Chaulk; sisters-in-law Olive Pinsent, Millie Hollett and Leona Hollett grandchildren; Kristen (Sonny) Close, Melanie Baker Amorim, Candice, William, Caleb and Abigail Pinsent, and great-grandson Spencer Close.  A large circle of nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Born in North Harbour, Placentia Bay, Olive moved to Grand Falls-Windsor at the age of 13 with her family. Married Bert, had two children, Glenn and Gail. Feeling the call to the ministry, sold their home, and moved to Peterborough, ON to attend Eastern Pentecostal Bible College, where Paul was born.  They pastored initially in Brockville, then for several years in Stephenville and Deer Lake. Olive and Bert were dearly loved by their church family.  When her husband passed away at the age of 51, this lady didn't give up. Never one to be idle, she worked in retail sales at Sears in Edmonton, managed the Religious Book and Bible house in Corner Brook, became a top seller with Tupperware in western Newfoundland. Totally dedicated to lending emotional support and ministering to those in need; in honour of her husband, she built the first senior citizens home on the shore of Deer Lake the "A. L Pinsent Memorial Home.” After retirement she was a faithful volunteer at the Health Sciences Complex in St. John’s.

This wonderful lady led a rich life, travelled extensively, was a beautiful singer and piano/organ player, loved by all who had the privilege to meet her.

As a wonderful mother and nanny-mother she will be sorely missed, leaving a huge void in our lives, however, we know it is only for a short season before we are reunited.
