Obituary of Mary Ann Booth

 Obituary – Mary Ann Booth

1941 - 2020

With sad hearts, we regret to announce the peaceful passing of Mary Ann Booth, of Grand Falls – Windsor on July 31, 2020.

Born in Castlecomer, County Kilkenny, Ireland, on January 12, 1941, Miss Booth immigrated to Canada in 1964.  Mary spent her life serving of others, including as a Salvation Army Officer and later as Administrator of the Mary Booth Group Home.  She spent much of her career in Calgary, Alberta, and retired to Grand Falls Windsor in 2007.

In her last days, surrounded by many close friends, Mary was able to video-chat and talk with her family in Ireland and England, and say her final good-byes, before going home – her Heavenly Home.

Mary was predeceased by parents Augustine and Anabelle (Belle) Booth, and on March 24 of this year her long-time friend Major Shirley Dawe.  She leaves to morn siblings William (Willie) Booth of Castlecomer Ireland; Augustine James (A.J.) Booth of Meadowfield England; Jenny Booth of Castlecomer Ireland; James (Jim) Booth of Luton England; close nephew Augustine (Gusty) Booth, nephew Michael Booth, niece Kathryn Booth, niece Fiona Booth and their families; her furry companion Nikki, and a very wide circle of friends who became her Canadian Family.

Many people helped care for Mary over the past several years as her health declined.  In particular the Dawe sisters had a constant presence in her home, as they cared for their ailing sister and Mary.   In addition to the home care workers and nurses, many others provided assistance, brought food, took care of the chores, and returned the love and support they had received from Mary over the years.  Mary’s telephone was seldom silent, as those she touched over the years kept in constant contact.  There are far too many to list, but they know who they are.

Mary will be resting at Hoskins Funeral Home, Grand Falls Windsor.  Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be private visitation.  A celebration of her life will take place at The Salvation Army, Grand Falls Citadel, 33 Circular Road, Grand Falls – Windsor, Newfoundland on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at 11:00 a.m.  Due to Covid-19 restrictions, this service will be private as well.   Interment will follow at in the Interfaith Cemetery, on Union Street.  Masks and physical distancing will be required at the Funeral Home, Church and grave-site.

No flowers by her request.  Donations in her memory may be made to The Salvation Army, Grand Falls Citadel Corps, 33 Circular Road, Grand Falls – Windsor, Newfoundland, Canada, A2A 2J3.

Mary Booth’s time on this earth may be done, but her mission continues through the lives of all those she has influenced.
