Obituary of Rita Elizabeth Budgell

Passed peacefully away at the Central NL Regional Health Center, Rita Elizabeth Budgell, at the age of 87 years. She was predeceased by her parents: Alexander and Bessie Tulk; husband Samuel Francis Prowse; second husband Wilfred Budgell; daughter, Barbara Ann Prowse; grandsons: David Samuel Benson, Christopher Byron Prowse; two brothers: Ernest Tulk and Stanley Tulk; sister Vina Freake. She leaves to mourn her sons: Herbert (Ruth), William (Christine), Roy (Elizabeth, Alex (Marie); daughters: Helen (John) Smith, Margaret (Kevin Price) Prowse, Barbara Ann (deceased), Tammy (Marco) Gosselyn; 21 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Rita was born to Alexander and Bessie Tulk of  Langdon's Cove, Green Bay, on September 24, 1932. Rita grew up in a different generation, and at fourteen years old her aunt Beatrice died and Rita had to go and keep house for uncle Willis Prowse and care for her cousins, Lester and Gordon. She had to grow up in a hurry. She was a hard working woman, who took care of her husband Sammy for 37 years. She raised eight children while cooking, cleaning,  and baking bread twice a day. In later years she was the caregiver for her elderly father  during the winter months. She loved her friends on pipeline hill, whom she was close to. She didn't show any favourites and treated them all with kindness and was saddened as each one passed away. She also loved her 1976 Moto-Ski Skidoo. When her beloved Sammy died, mom felt lonely and a few years later married Wilfred Budgell, a friend from her past from her home town. They travelled the island in their camper. She also enjoyed socializing with people and loved riding around town in their car. She loved looking at her watch waiting for the time to go to church and enjoyed singing all the hymns. Her family were always recipients of the many knitted items she completed over the years. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and Wilfred's family, whom she loved as her own and always enjoyed their visits or phone calls each week.
