Obituary of Albert Phillips

Albert Philips (Sr.) Passed peacefully away at the A.M. Guy Health Care Center in Buchans, NL on June 7, 2020. Albert was born on October 4, 1928 in Hare Harbour, Fortune Bay, NL to Henry and Julia Phillips. He met and married Hilda (Bolt) of Grand la Pierre and they married on September 25, 1951. They had four children.   Albert and his family moved to Buchans in 1971, where he came to work as a cook at the Asarco staff house. Albert is predeceased by his parents Henry & Julia Phillips,  his loving wife Hilda of 64 years, 2 sons Leslie and Albert (Jr.) brothers: Max, James and Harry. sisters: Emma and Martha.


Leaving to mourn are his children, son Otto (Brenda) Phillips and daughter Louise (Fred) Rose.  Albert was blessed with 8 grandchildren:  Scott, David, Sherrill, Amanda, Leslie, Brendalee, Victoria and April; also leaving to mourn 8 great-grandchildren:  A.J., Jordi, Alex, Ava, Henry, Harrison, Savanna and Declan. They could always bring a smile to his face and a twinkle to his eye.  Also left to mourn are his daughters–in-law; Loretta (Greg) West and Joanne (Paul) Head as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Albert was known for his love of cooking but his greatest joy was his family. He loved his grandchildren and was always ready to welcome them ( and their friends) into his home. (A meal, a ride, a sleepover was always ready on demand).   Pallbearers are Victoria Snook, Brendalee Phillips, Leslie Phillips, Sherrill Norris, Mark Norris and Greg West.

Due to the restrictions as a result of COVID-19 viewing and services will be private.  Rev. Joan Antle will conduct the funeral service at Hoskins Funeral Home followed by the burial at the Buchans Community Cemetery.
