Hughlet (Sam) Wesley Carter passed away on June 1, 2020 at the Etobicoke General Hospital in Ontario, after a brief illness, at the age of 74 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Edwina Carter; sisters: Linda and Louise.
He leaves to mourn his sisters: Joan (Bill) Hedges, Beulah Francis, Mary Edison, Judy Carter, Glenda Hong (Jerry Sutton), Gail (Junior) Mercer, also a circle of other relatives and friends.
Hughlet (known as Sam to close family and friends) was born and raised in Botwood, NL and left for Ontario at a very early age and spent 50 plus years there. He went away to work and make a life for himself. Hughlet worked his whole life up until the time of his passing. Even though he was away from home, he would always like to be kept up to date with the happenings in his family and hometown.
While away from home, Hughlet would keep in contact through phone calls and make summer visits every two or three years but in recent years he would make yearly visits with his sister Beulah. He enjoyed family gatherings, fire pit conversations, going on adventures and exploring Blueberry Hill (hill behind his family home). When Hughlet was visiting, he would enjoy telling stories about his early life and the experiences he had throughout his life. Hughlet would set time aside to spend with his childhood friend Bob Sharron while he was home and enjoyed every minute.
Rev. James Martin-Carter will conduct a memorial service at Hoskins Funeral Home, Botwood with interment at the United Church Cemetery. Urnbearer will be Mary Edison
The family would like to thank the medical team at Etobicoke General Hospital for taking such good care of Hughlet and his close friends Todd and family and Carol for offering their support and care throughout his life.
Family, friends and close connections were very important to Hughlet and we will miss him very much.
