Obituary of Eugene Frank Gill
After a short, courageous battle with cancer Eugene Frank Gill passed peacefully away on May 3, 2019 at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Center at the age of 60 years. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Carmen Gill; brothers: Les and Dave; sister, Gloria. He leaves to mourn his wife Lorraine; son, Andre (Tarra) Gill and daughter, April (Wade) Lanning and two granddaughters, Ella and Mya. He also leaves his sister, Flora (Merv) Anthony; brothers: Harold (Marie), Art (Margaret), Lloyd (Barbara), Don (Wavey), Bill (Shirley), George, Ed (Wendy) and a large circle of other relatives and friends.
Eugene was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved the outdoors and the breathtaking view from his backyard. Spending time with family was of the utmost importance. He always looked forward to anniversary trips to the west coast with the love of his life, Lorraine. Enjoying visits with April and family, she was always her dad’s treasure. Andre’s hockey career gave him so much joy, he would beam with pride watching him play. In recent years, they have enjoyed many rounds of golf together. Eugene lived for his granddaughters. There’s nothing Pop wouldn’t do for his two girls. From playing ‘tag you’re it’ to ‘hide and seek’ and enjoying special picnics.
An active member of Jubilee Temple, he served as a board member, worship leader, security, KPH leader as well as many other roles.
He was employed with Abitibi Price for 28 years. He then retrained as a heavy equipment operator and travelled to Alberta for three years. Most recently Eugene worked with the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District as a bus driver, custodian and maintenance person where he was admired and respected by staff and students.
He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. “The world was a better place because he was here.”
Pastor Moral Bess and Pastor Edwin White will conduct the funeral service at Jubilee Pentecostal Temple on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 11 A.M. with interment at the Pentecostal Cemetery. Pallbearers are Lloyd Gill, Jason Gill, Bill Wells, Don Gill, Winston Clarke and Michael Byrne. Honorary pallbearer is Flora Anthony.
