Obituary of Gowered Joe Hemeon
Joseph Hemeon Jr. was born November 4, 1934 in Botwood Newfoundland. One of four children to Joseph Sr. and Eliza Hemeon. Joe and his three sisters: Madeleine, Marie and Joyce.
In his teens Joe went to Ontario to stay with his sister Marie and her husband Albert. Two years later, he decided to return to his beloved hometown of Botwood, where he met the love of his life, Yvonne Carter. Joe often used the song “Some Enchanted Evening” by Frank Sinatra to describe the night they met.
Joe and Yvonne married at the Anglican Church in Botwood on the seventh of April, 1958. After five years of marriage they had their first child Pamela Joyce and 14 months later they welcomed their son Kirk Joseph. He spent the majority of his career working with Abitibi, retiring at age 55. He was blessed with five adoring grandchildren: Rylei, Paige, Jackson, Carter and Tate.
Joseph passed away on April thirteenth at the age of 84 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by parents Joseph and Eliza Hemeon, and sister Marie Lucas.
Joe spent a number of years as a member of the Legion and was a standing member of the Botwood heritage society taking great pride in both. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren, as the house would come to life when they were around. He enjoyed listening to music, playing guitar, singing, telling stories of the olden days and coffee time with his friends.
He will be profoundly missed by family and remembered by friends.
The Hemeon family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all those who helped during this time of bereavement.
“The loss is immeasurable, but so is the love left behind.”
