It is with deep sadness the family of the late Helen Genevieve Broomfield (nee Donovan) announce her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Center in Grand-Falls/Windsor, NL in her 79th year. The eldest of ten children, Genevieve was born in St. Brendan’s, Bonavista Bay and moved her family to Grand-Falls/Windsor where she presided for over 40 years, the last two taking residence in Twin Town Manor with her husband.
She was predeceased by her parents George and Helen Donovan, and brothers Joe (Elaine) and Mike (Mary). Left to mourn are her husband of 57 years, Tom Broomfield and her two sons Jim and Gary (Lori); grandchildren: Sasha, Caitlyn and Alyssa; sisters: Rita Donovan (Harold Mackey), Louise Griffin (Garry), Aggie Donovan and Cecilia O’Rielly (Albert); brothers: Vince Donovan (the late Mary), Mark (Doreen) and George Jr. (the late Debbie); and the Broomfield family. Also left to mourn are her nieces, nephews, close relatives and her friends across the island.
Genevieve was a humble woman of great faith and she found much comfort in the services of her parish and the community. In recent years she was heartbroken to be unable to attend Sunday services due to health issues. She was very generous with her prayers and would lovingly tell you after a good chat that you were included in her rosary.
No flowers by request, donations may be made in her memory to St. Joseph’s Parish. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 12th, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Parish in Grand Falls-Windsor.
