Winfield J. Higgins Sr.

Passed peacefully away on July 31, 2022, Winfield (Win) James Higgins Sr. Dad retired from working with the town of Grand Falls-Windsor in 2001. Dad was a quiet man who had a great love and talent for music and for his cabin life with mom. He always seemed to enjoy the simpler things in life. His greatest love, however, was his family and spending time with them. He absolutely loved being surrounded by his wife and children, but nothing made him smile more that his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were his pride and joy. Dad loved nothing more than a “family get-together” and requested one very chance he would get. They were always filled with lots of laughter and fun and many times music topped it off. Just as much as dad loved those get-togethers, so did we. We were lucky enough as a family, to be given many opportunities to make precious memories with him, and each other. Dad loved being the center of attention at our gatherings and we loved making it happen.

On dad’s final day with us, he spent his morning doing what he loved to do every Sunday morning, listening to Jiggs and Reels. The afternoon was also spent listening to some of his favorite songs with his family. Surrounded by family and listening to music – two of dad’s favorite things. As he passed, dad was touched by the hands of his wife and children, so they knew he would feel the immeasurable love they had for him. We miss you already, Dad.

He was predeceased by his parents: William and Philomena; step-mother, Marie Hunt; brothers: Andrew and Mick; sister, Geraldine; daughters-in-law:  Jackie Higgins and Belle Higgins; granddaughter, Kelsey Jill.

He leaves to mourn with a lifetime of beautiful memories, his loving and devoted wife of over 64 years, Lillian; sons: Larry, Paul (Ann), Win (Berney), Brian (Peg), Bill (Roz); daughters: Theresa (Ron) Sullivan and Debbie (Brad Cramm). He also leaves his grandchildren: Kayla, Jessica, Susan, Krista, Brandon, Nathan, Kathryn, Kendra, Donald, Geoffrey, Jennifer, Nicole; great-grandchildren: Madison, Evan, Kaitlyn, Kaiden and Hailey; brother, Frank (Vicki); sister, Mena (Jack) Pretty; and his large in-law Penton family along with his extended family of nieces, nephews and many friends.

At the request of the family, masks are required to be worn at the visitation and  funeral mass.
