Passed away on February 17, 2019 at his residence in Grand Falls-Windsor, David Samuel Clyde Rice, at the age of 66 years. He is predeceased by his parents, Ambrose and Susie Rice. He leaves to mourn his brothers, Boyd (Carol) and Wayne (Patsy); nephews, Brad (Crystal), Brian (Hollie), Barry (Melissa), Blair (Alison), and Christopher (Sandy); nieces, Tina (Glenn) Janes and Jody (Edward) Joyce. Also leaving to mourn, Aunt Ann and Aunt Ivy.
David was born and raised in the former town of Windsor. As a young boy, David contracted Polio Meningitis and spent some time at the Sunshine Camp in St. John's. He was left crippled and had to wear a leg brace for many years. His disability interfered with his schooling and caused difficulties in getting employment.
His grandfather, Edward, and his mother, Susie tended to his needs until their death. Afterwards, he got his own apartment and with some help managed his own needs.
A highlight for David was getting his electric wheelchair so he could get to the mall regularly and see his friends at Tim Hortons. His smile and cheerful disposition overshadowed his physical handicaps. He dearly loved seeing his nephews and nieces and being a part of their lives, they will miss him immensely.
Majors Larry & Judy Goudie will conduct a memorial service at Hoskins Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor on Thursday at 11:00 AM.
