Obituary of Phyllis Canning

Passed away peacefully on Sept. 15, 2017, Phyllis Ada (Reid) Canning at the Central NL Health Center at the age of 86 years.

Phyllis was born on Change Islands to John and Belinda Reid. She later moved to Morton’s Harbour where she married her husband Melvin Canning, then moved to Botwood in 1959 where they started their lives and their family.

She loved knitting, making quilts. She also enjoyed bingo, puzzles and other games at the Killick Center. She especially loved visits from her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents: John and Belinda Reid; sister Ruby; Husband Melvin; infant daughters: Margaret and Heather; brothers-in-law: Lloyde, Aubrey and Jerry. She leaves to mourn her daughters: Rose (Maurice) Moore, Beverly (Dave) Burke, Juanita (Bob) Mills. Also her brothers: Earl and Bruce Jennings; her seven grandchildren: Heather (Vinnie) Crupi, Christopher (Cynthia) Moore, Sarah (Matthew) Moore, Krista (Mark) Lefresne, Mandy (Adam) Burke, Holly (Ed) Burke and Tyler (Jessicia) Mills; her five great-grandchildren: John, Scarlett, Emilia, Maci and Mya (arriving Oct. 13, 2017); special niece Mazie (Warrick) Butt and sister-in-law Sadie Canning  and a circle of other relatives and friends.

Pastor James Martin-Carter will conduct the funeral service at Trinity United Church on Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 at 2 p.m. with interment at the United Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are Maurice Moore, Dave Burke, Ed Bennett, Christopher Moore, Ernie Coates.
