Obituary of Ruby Ste Croix
Passed peacefully away at the Carmelite, Grand Falls-Windsor on June 16, 2017, Ruby Marie Ste Croix of Bishop’s Falls at the age of 77 years. She was predeceased by her first husband Joseph Champion; second husband Roger Ste Croix; sons Brad Champion and Robert Ste Croix; parents George and Rhoda Rice; sisters: Karen Kelly, Jean Langdon, Vera Ellsworth and Jessie (George) Sheppard.
Ruby was raised in Botwood with seven sisters and six brothers. She moved to Bishop’s Falls when she married her first husband Joseph Champion and had her first born son Brad Champion. After Joe passed, she later married Roger Ste Croix and then had another two sons: Roger Ste Croix Jr. and Robert Ste Croix. Ruby was a loving mother and cherished her boys dearly. Her grandchildren were also the joy of her life and spoke often of Travis and Jeffrey and they were always there to lend a hand when she needed them. Ruby had many losses in her life, the death of her first husband Joe at a young age; also her first born son Brad at an early age; then her son Robert; then her second husband Roger. She always kept a positive outlook on life despite these challenges. She always said “the Lord will only put on me what I can bear”. Her faith kept her strong along with her son Roger who she adored and spoke of daily.
Ruby was a very active member with her church the Seventh-day Adventist in Botwood and Grand Falls-Windsor. She attended church services, prayer meetings and church events on a regular basis. During all this her faith kept her strong.
She was looking forward to the upcoming marriage of Roger to Donna this August and talked about the wedding for months and could not wait for this special occasion. She will be missed and thought of a lot that day for sure.
Ruby was very close with her family, she spent lots of time with her sisters and they will miss her phone calls. She leaves behind many friends, which were so close they became family. Ruby’s family, friends and “neighbour” will miss her dearly and always remember her as an amazing and loving mom, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
She leaves to mourn her son Roger (Donna) Ste Croix and daughter-in-law Denise Champion; her three grandchildren Jeffrey Champion, Travis Champion and Jennifer Peyton and her three great-grandchildren and special friends Agnes Wells and Darlene Bernard. Also left to mourn are her sisters: Marion Power, Georgina (Boniface) Beson and Shirley (Melvin) Osmond; brothers: Arch (Doreen) Rice, Harvey Rice, Jim Rice, Charles Rice, Allen Rice, Victor (Ellen) Rice; brothers-in-law: Sean Kelly, George Langdon and Oliver Ellsworth and many nieces, nephews and a large circle of other relatives and friends.
Pastor Jonathan Gascoyne will conduct the funeral service at Sacred Heart Parish, Bishop’s Falls on Monday, June 19, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. with interment at the Roman Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers are Arch Rice, Harvey Rice, Charles Rice, Denise Champion, Darlene Bernard and Agnes Wells. Honorary pallbearer Darlene Osmond.
