David Norman Burt

Norman passed peacefully away, surrounded by his children on April 5, 2018 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Center in GFW. 

            Predeceased by his loving wife Marie, adoptive parents, Madeline and George Cooper, birth parents Maxwell and Nellie Pretty, brothers Lawrence, Nelson, Cyril and Reginald, sisters, Violet(Sis), Florence and Mildred, stepsister, Grace, grandson Chris and great grandson Bentley.  Also Hubert Burt and son-in-law, Danny Wells.

            Norman will be missed dearly by all his children. Yvonne and husband Keith, Joann, David, Lorenzo and wife Mona, Donald and wife Lisa, Tammy and Marty and daughter in law Sandra. His life would not be complete without the love from his 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who thought the world of him.

            Norm will also be lovingly remembered by his brothers (Harry and Loretta, Clifford and Betty), sister-in-law(Nada Pretty), brother-in-law(Arthur Reid) step brothers (Don and Janet, Gordon and Ann, Larry and Carriayn), step sisters (Noreen and Tom, Eileen and Bob, Marilyn). 

            Norman made his mark in various communities over his lifetime but Bishop's Falls was where he was born and where he considered home.  He raised and provided for his family here and many of his children remain in Bishop's Falls today.

            He worked for the Department of Forestry for 25 years where he retired in 2009. During this time he fought many Forest Fires and endured long hours on the job. Norman was most proud of his service with the Bishop's Falls Fire Department of which he was an active member for 40 years.  During this time he received several awards and recognized for his exemplary commitment to this department.  When he retired from the Bishop's Falls Fire Department he became a very deserving honorary fireman.

            Norm loved all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren, he always looked forward to their visits and funny stories.  He was a kind-hearted man whose door was always open and all were welcome.


Pastor Greg Patey will conduct the funeral service from Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle in Bishop's Falls on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 2pm. Interment will follow at the Pentecostal Cemetery on Sunset Drive. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home in Bishop's Falls. Pallbearers are sons, David Burt, Lorenzo Burt and Donald Burt and brothers, Harry Pretty and Clifford Pretty as well as step brother, Don Cooper.
